(Heads up, Full view is 1000 pix wide)
Bloodlines and ancestry is a familiar topic in The Legend Of Zelda. It's perfectly logical that perhaps somewhere along the time line, the chosen hero is a daughter of Hyrule and not a son.

I wanted to entertain that notion and create a familiar 'Link' design, but as a strong female lead. Before this years E3, there was alot of buzz that the next Zelda was to be 'The Great Flood' and it would star a Hero fulfilling Links role, but not a true Heir(And thus failing to prevent the flood). I had that in mind during the design process.

It was a fun little concept to do. I tried to create a brand new design as opposed to 'What if the Link we know now was a girl'. As in this Hero would star in a brand new Zelda game. Mainly 'cus the whole gender-swapping thing is weird and confusing.

Btw, Nintendo!

Link To The Past design was awesome!

was led to this link by a cosplayer that used your design as her final template for her costume...aside from the sword being HUMONGOUS...she did a faithful job and the sword looks pretty sweet anyways....i love your thinking, what resulted from that thinking...and all the little in betweens and personality within the cracks ( like your preference for the yellow band). that being said, a design can always go further, whether its after a final draft or not, serious, or just for kicks. if you decide to do another, i'll share a little bit of MY preference for female heroes like these (Samus being a major implication here): a logical body type. Samus being my point of reference here, a female hero can be ANY body type really, because its the deed, not the means, but a hero with a long bloodline, or any sort of serious ramming power is gonna have some proportions. i've always wondered why major heroines never have an Amazonian body type. i'm not talkin butch here, if you'll excuse the crude expression, i'm talkin Wonder Woman. some fighting games aside, your main heroine is often a model. i dont hate on it, i just want to see a change, somethin new. plus it makes more sense. the body type i'm talkin is imposing, heroic, powerful, yet still sexy with all those curves...glorious really. the problem is ya gotta get it just right. especially if you're talking about a young girl like your version of Link probably is if she emulates her masculine ancestor. legs, shoulders, arms, waist, even the jaw...they cant be out of control on steroids, they cant be out of proportion, and they have to be in sync with each other. well, i've gone on for quite a while, so you can see i've blared my horn about this before. once again, its the Metroid series that created it in me..i mean come on...the woman's a super soldier with alien blood for goodness sake! anyway, IF you do another one...give it some thought. great work.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd like to raise the point that Link is not a well built character, he's often portrayed as a boy or a less than muscular young man, echoing the notion of courage, not strength, prevailing over evil. In regards to this design, I wasn't considering anything of the sort as it was as you said, 'for kicks'. I won't be doing another!

of course, i couldnt agree more, that's why the difference between him and ganondorf has developed to that significant aesthetic they both share. sometimes the character depiction varies with title, with some emphasizing his role as one third of a whole concept and others depicting him as the ideal holder of the collective, ultimately embodying all three. in either case, i saw in your depiction elements from the more recent realistic installments. Twilight Princess took brief efforts to showcase Link's build and strength more, and Ocarina was no exception with displaying those feats either. in the event that build is established and that detail is brought to the viewer's attention(as was not the case in wind waker, or the original zelda) my opinion holds in a musculature of some kind, preferably lean-"strapping" in a sense- and certainly in stark contrast to the opposition, with its gaudy displays of power. AND if your design is female, to take that into account too. since your design was not intended for any serious long-term development though, it's all moot for the most part

You like the A Link To The Past design? Then you should have given her pink hair, just sayin'. Yes, the Link in ALTTP has pink hair. Mind blown? :D

The Sprite did sure, but the official artwork didn't! As I understand it, the reason it's Pink ingame is because it's the only colour that wouldn't blend with Links flesh tone/hat combination- similar to the only reason Mario has a moustache being that his nose didn't look enough like a nose in the very first sprite.
